Erection by our own crews

Our erection crews put up the frames, fix the purlins, lay the roof and wall sheets, and fit the gutters and flashings. The fitters and supervisors are our own employees, and they work to the same drawings the plant rolled from.

We erect what we supply, and we also erect roofs on other people's structures, including sheet from other mills when the contract calls for it.

In most jobs the erection is contracted and carried out by MNF Projects LLP, our projects company, which holds its own ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certificates.

Fitters fixing roof sheets on a steel frame

What erection includes

  • Checking the anchor bolts against our layout before the columns arrive.
  • Erecting the primary frames with a crane, then plumbing and bolting them, and fixing the bracing.
  • Fixing the C and Z purlins, girts and sag rods to the punching on the drawing.
  • Laying the roof and wall sheets with self-drilling screws on the purlin lines, and seaming the 4 Rib standing seam where that profile is used.
  • Fitting the ridges, gutters, downpipes, gable and corner flashings, drip trims and foam fillers.
  • Fixing turbo ventilators, FRP skylights and louvers into the roof and walls.
  • A snag walk with you, then handover with the as-built drawings and the material certificates.

The crane, scaffolding and site power are charged separately and are not included in the erection price.

Safety on the roof

Erection is run by MNF Projects LLP and sits inside the scope of its ISO 45001:2018 certificate for occupational health and safety, number 305025123053HS, which covers pre-engineered buildings from planning and design to the final on-site installation. The certificate is on our certifications page. Fitters work in harnesses clipped to a lifeline, walk on the purlin lines and never on the sheet between them, and every sheet is fixed before the crew moves on. On a working factory we fence the drop zone under the bay being worked and agree the hours with your plant head so the line under it keeps running.

We do not send a crew onto a roof without a supervisor. If your site rules require a permit to work, a safety induction or a height-work certificate for every fitter, tell us at quote stage and we build the time in.

Where our crews have worked

On the Delhi to Meerut NCRTC corridor, URC Construction brought us in to take over the critical remaining scope on the elevated stations after other vendors left midway. We finished ahead of schedule with zero leakage across every station we executed. Read the NCRTC job.

On the Delhi Metro stations at Deepali Chowk, West Enclave and Pushpanjali, also for URC Construction, the work is the erection of roof and wall cladding on the station buildings and the entry and exit bridges, and the fabrication and erection of 3 mm galvanised rainwater gutters. The sheet on that job was specified by the client, so it is our erection crews and our gutters rather than our own profile on the roof.

What we do not erect

We erect steel and sheet. Civil work, insulated panel walls for cold stores, and the electrical and fire services inside the building are done by your other contractors, and we coordinate the interfaces with them on the drawings.

Questions we get asked

Which company signs the erection contract?

In most jobs, MNF Projects LLP. It quotes, contracts and carries out the erection, and its GST number is on the invoice. Your quote names the company that will sign, so there is no surprise at the contract stage. If you also buy the steel from us, the material is invoiced by MNF Metals & Forming Pvt Ltd, and the two quotes are usually sent together so you can see the whole job at once.

Will you erect sheets I bought from someone else?

Yes. We erected Lysaght Trimdek sheet on the Delhi Metro stations because the client specified it. Send us the sheet profile and the purlin layout and we will quote the fixing. We do ask to see the sheets before quoting, since a badly stored coil costs more to lay.

How many fitters come to site?

A supervisor and a crew sized to the building, typically six to twelve fitters on a shed roof. The programme on the quote shows the crew size and the square metres a day we have planned for.

Can you work while my factory is running?

Yes, and most reroofing jobs are done that way. We fence the drop zone under the bay we are working, cover the machines below with tarpaulin where dust is a concern, and agree hours with your plant head, including night or Sunday work where a line cannot stop.

Who is responsible if a sheet gets damaged during erection?

We are. Sheets damaged by our crew are replaced at our cost. Damage to your own or a third party's material on site is covered by our contractor's all-risk insurance, and we can name your company on the policy for the job.
